This course is created for Personal Assistants who support autistic people or may do in the future.
By completing this course you will learn about:
- understanding autism; what is autism, language, the role of a personal assistant, busting myths
- support and protection
- communication; double empathy problem, communication differences, how to improve your communication
- sensory differences; sensory processing and the types of differences, autistic sensory experiences
- masking; examples, impact and how to help support a masking autistic person
- under pressure; self-stimulating habits, anxiety, burnouts, meltdowns, shutdowns and how to help support an autistic person experiencing them.
Throughout the course there will be the opportunity to reflect on and practice what you are learning and how it applies to your role as a PA. Completing these reflections and working exercises are necessary to achieve a certificate for the course.
